So, It’s been a while since I updated but there are good reasons!  School and work have been crazy, leaving me no time to cook or do anything related to cooking..  I’ll get this thing back on track though.  I still have those Super Bowl pictures and recipes that I will get up here soon.

For now, I wanted to highlight a few restaurants I frequent in this area.  I want to make resturaunt reviews and reccomendations a regular thing on here, so consider this a beginning.   If you didn’t know, I live in the Ypsilanti area, or if somehow you found this blog and are out of state, the Ann Arbor area, so most of these are close to home.  Every now and then I do leave the state so I’ll have my resuraunt adventures from that as well.

La Fuente

Mexican Food
1930 Whittaker Rd
Ypsilanti, MI 48197
(734) 961-6644

Outside of Mexican Town in Detroit, this is the best Mexican food I have ever had.  They have a huge menu full of great authentic Mexican dishes, plus huge delicious margaritas.  They’re biggest one is 42 ounces, If I recall correctly.  Their fresh salsa is brought to you before your meal for no charge, and is delicious.  Their salsa has tasted a little different every time I have been there.  I have a dream of going all the way through their menu, but I can’t resist ordering the Chori Pollo.  The Chori Pollo is a large chicken breast, marinated to prefection, covered with chorizo and cheese.  It is also served with homemade tortillas, rice, and beans.  I really can’t say enough for the chicken at this place.  I have been trying to figure out what they marinate it in since I began frequenting the resturaunt.

Lunch specials are very reasonable, and they offer over 20 types of Mexican Tequila.  If you are a fan of Mexican food and live in the Ypsilanti area, you need to visit La Fuente.

Jerusalem Garden

Middle Eastern Food
307 S 5th Ave
Ann Arbor, MI 48104
(734) 995-5060

There’s actually a pretty funny story about this place.  Growing up, I would not touch any sort of vegetable.  My Mom tried, with no success, to get me to eat any sort of vegetables for years.  Finally, she took me to Jerusalem Garden and ordered me Flafels.  She wouldn’t tell me what it was, but I saw that it was fried and instantly wanted to try it.  After one bite, I was hooked.  I later found out it was ground chick peas, onions, and herbs but couldn’t have cared less.

I have since been to many Middle Eastern restaurants but have never had a better flafel than at Jerusalem Garden.  Their hummus is also up there with the best I have tried.  Their lentil soup is also very good, and goes well with the sandwich.  The use of lemon in their lentil soup is perfect.

I wish I could offer some tips on what else to order here, but the flafel is so good I haven’t been able to try anything else.

Le Dog

Hot Dog Stand
306 S Main St # 1G
Ann Arbor, MI

This place is right down the road from Jerusalem Garden, so I will frequently get two lunches if both places are open.  Le Dog has been around for 35 years, and offers three varieties of delicious hot dogs, but what is so amazing are the soups.  At any day, you might find asparagus chowder, Tuscan squash, chicken paprikascq, ribollito, broccoli with cheese, or my favorite, the lobster bisque.  Le Dog is serving some of the best soup I have ever had in my life and for a reasonable price.  The only problem are the limited hours.  I believe they are only open until 2:30 or so, but they do stay open for the Winter.

TupTim

No Picture yet!

Thai Food
4896 Washtenaw Ave
Ann Arbor, MI 48108

TupTim is a delicious Thai resturaunt inside of an old Long John Silver’s building.  They serve some of the best Thai food I have ever eaten.  When it comes to spicy, this place doesn’t mess around.  When you order your food, you are asked if you want it anywhere from not spicy to extra spicy.  I have alway opted to go with “spicy”.   I am a spicy food fanatic, but I am scared to see what “extra spicy” taste likes.  The spicy option will have your eyes watering, but will still allow you to taste your food.

The prices are a little high ($11-$15 a plate), but if you’re looking for a nice resturaunt that serves great Thai food, check this place out.
